How do I know whether the seller’s local return address is real and safe to use before I send the parcel?

Returns & Shipping Costs

The safest way is to use only the return address shown in the seller’s official return instructions, return label, or order page, and to send the parcel only after you have checked that the address is complete and matches the return reference. If the address comes only from a chat message, looks incomplete, or is different from the seller’s stated return details, ask for written confirmation before you post it.

Check these points before you ship:

  • The address has a full name or business name, street, house number, postal code, city, and country.
  • It matches the address in the marketplace order details, return request, or return label, not just a free-text message from the seller.
  • It includes any return number, RMA number, or order number the seller asked for. If the seller gave one, write it exactly on the parcel and keep the parcel label.
  • The postcode and city look consistent. If the postcode points to one place and the city name points to another, pause and verify.
  • The address exists and looks like a real delivery location on a map or postal lookup. This does not prove it is safe, but it can catch obvious mistakes such as missing street numbers, wrong cities, or non-existent postcodes.

Do not send the parcel yet if:

  • the seller asks you to return it to a different address than the one in the official return process without explaining why,
  • the address is only a private name, a mailbox, or a vague storage location with no full delivery details,
  • the seller wants you to send it to another country and you have not confirmed that this is the approved return destination,
  • the label looks unofficial, altered, or inconsistent with the order record.

If the marketplace generated the return label, use that label unless the seller or platform tells you otherwise. If you are returning at your own cost, keep the return address exactly as provided and save a screenshot of the instructions before you hand over the parcel.

If anything is unclear, ask the seller or marketplace support to confirm in writing:

  • the exact return address,
  • whether it is the correct address for your order number,
  • whether a return number must be added to the parcel,
  • whether the carrier or country matters for that address.

Save the message thread, return label, order number, and tracking number. Those details matter if the parcel is later marked undeliverable or the seller says it was sent to the wrong place.

Practical tip: if the address is not already in the marketplace’s return flow, do not post the parcel until the seller confirms it matches your order number in writing.
